Mother Daughter Day

Posted by mothernaturesgarden on September 30, 2008

Yesterday, on the way to visit my daughter, the whole world looked tinged with the first hues of autumn magic. This photo taken from the bridge is Beaver Dam Creek that runs behind our house. The weather was wonderfully mild and we had a great day doing girly things: lunch, chat, lingerie shopping, chocolate cake. :) We stopped by a little nursery and it was full of a wonderful array of cucurbits. Life is good and fun shared with grown children.

Bonsai of Dan Barton

Posted by mothernaturesgarden on September 26, 2008

I love this little piece of pottery. It is a souvenir of a long ago vacation. I was reminded of it while viewing the bonsai pottery link below and dug it out from where it had been stored away.

If you are a perfectionist, you may enjoy practicing the art of bonsai. You can, however, always appreciate it. Dan Barton is quite an artist not only with bonsai but pottery as well.

Thankful Thursday

Posted by mothernaturesgarden on September 25, 2008

I’m thankful for beautiful music.

A choral arrangemnent of Samuel Barber’s Adgio for Strings.

Agnus Dei

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona nobis pacem.

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us.
Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us.
Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, grant us peace.

Gerber Daisy

Posted by mothernaturesgarden on September 24, 2008

I Gerbera jamesonii

Gerbera jamesonii

I love gerber daisies. I could not pass this one without bringing it home. I think I am subconsciously preparing for Halloween. Anyway, it is here and I think I’ll add it to the bed with the ones I already have. There are thousands of varieties but I could not find much online about specific cultivars. :|

They make nice indoor plants as well. You can usually buy them anytime of year. I like to buy something in the fall that I can play with all winter. Last year it was succulents. This year it may be gerber daisies. :)

There are a couple of different, although subtle, forms in this container.

It is the variety of form and color I find fascinating.

I understand they bloom better when potbound which is a great characteristic for indoor plants in small spaces. Yes, this year it will be gerber daisies. :)

Autumn Beauties

Lycoris radiata

Lycoris radiata

I just realized photos can be enlarged three times. Click on the photo to enlarge. After it enlarges do it again and again for an up close and personal look into my garden. It’s almost like being here.

The most amazing thing happened. Hubby and I were talking of planting a large container in layers with daffodils on the bottom overplanted with crocus and then purple and blue pansies.  The next day I was surprised to find, he had already sifted the compost and mixed in blood meal; bought the bulbs on one of his almost daily trips to Lowes; and planted and watered the container as we had discussed. Life is good. :)
